Last week we drove down to Hobart to see a Ben Folds concert which was great but the best part was spending time with Katie and Andrew. We all went together, my first time seeing anything at the Theatre Royal. It’s very ornate and quite small so we were not too far from the stage. We left our little dog with my mum and that was quite an adventure for both of them.
Earlier in the summer, just after new year I collected enough apricots from our tree and froze them ready to make apricot chutney. It’s about 10 years since I made the last batch which was I think a double batch and we are now down to the last jar. This weekend, with the cooler weather I went ahead and made this year’s chutney. The recipe came from someone I used to work with in Melbourne back in the mid 80s, she said it was an old family recipe. It is delicious with ham or with cheese. It makes about a dozen 370g jars (the Bonne Maman jam jars).
I am knitting Katie a jumper, just a quick knit to help keep her warm when winter comes as she feels the cold terribly and her flat doesn’t have very good heating and what they have is expensive to run. Andrew is keen for me to knit him a new jumper too, I have ordered some yarn and I bought a pattern which I hope he likes. Knitting a man’s jumper is always daunting for me unless it is on big needles and chunky yarn. This one is 8ply yarn and 4mm needles so wish me luck.
I am finding it difficult to settle into a work routine at the moment, summer has been glorious and we have been coming and going. But I’m sure the days will begin to settle now, there is a hint of autumn in the air, Uni goes back soon so no more visits from Kate for a while and hopefully I will get some work done. I want to just peacefully and organically create whatever comes to mind.
